How To Detangle Hair: Mistakes to Avoid

Maintaining gorgeous curls are absolutely worth the effort!

We get it. Not everyone understands the amount of time and work that goes into maintaining those gorgeous curls.

How To Detangle Hair: Mistakes to Avoid

How do you untangle badly tangled hair? How do you get really bad knots out of your hair? It takes a little work but its absolutely worth the trouble! Check out these tips on how to detangle hair without destroying it:

1. It Takes Time

This may sound simple but rushing the haircare routine is a common mistake for coarser hair types.

If you don’t have time, leave it for another day!

Rushing it is not worth damaging your hair for. And when you do get a proper detangling session in? You're going to take more time to fix it anyway.

Good-looking curls take time but they're worth all the effort!

2. Not Sectioning Your Hair

Sectioning your hair makes it infinitely easier to manage and detangle knotty hair.

You can use your fingers or the end of a comb to help you divide your hair into sections. The number of sections would vary depending on how thick your hair is.

Once you're done detangling a section, clip it aside to keep things neat. Or you can just braid each section as you go.

3. Start From Your Ends, Not Your Roots

Whether you're using a comb or your fingers, its always a good idea to begin from your ends and work your way up. It can be tempting to start from your roots especially if you are rushing, but this risks breakage & further frizz even if you successfully detangle your knotty hair.

Should you detangle hair wet or dry? Brushing your hair wet can cause breakage, so use a wide tooth comb if you must. Otherwise, letting it air dry and combing it then is best.

Does coconut oil help detangle hair? Yes! That's why it's in our WOW Skin Science Onion Black Seed Hair Oil. It's made with a ton of moisture-rich ingredients and is made without any silicones.

4. Cleanse Your Scalp!

Chances are, your scalp and strands need a good cleansing. Curly hair types accumulate more dirt and product buildup than the average person.

This weighs your hair down and complicates your detangling efforts!

So be sure to grab yourself an excellent clarifying shampoo like the WOW Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo. The raw apple cider vinegar is great at dissolving all that buildup without drying out the scalp

We also have our very own WOW Skin Science Stimulating Scalp Massager that's made with gentle, silicone bristles. It's perfect for helping you remove all that dirt & buildup with ease!
