5 Ways to Shrink Enlarged Pores on Nose

3 mins

Shanna Mendez

Enlarged pores on nose can be such a pain for everyone from preteens to pregnant mothers-to-be. Fortunately, treatment is simple and easy.

While I have never been a huge makeup enthusiast, I have always been an avid skincare devotee. From even before I hit puberty, I spent my allowance on Noxzema cold cream, I dunked my face in ice water to “close my pores,” and I wiled away the hours in the beauty aisles of drugstores. I wanted my skin to be beautiful.

Then, I hit puberty, and struggle for a decade with acne. Enlarged pores were an issue for me long before I knew what they were. Of course, teen magazines had all the answers. Only, they did not. Of course, my friends had all the answers. Only, they did not either.

It took me many years, much research, and tons of personal experimentation to finally figure out the answer to shrinking my pores. Come to find out, the solution is much simpler than you might imagine, and it comes from misunderstanding the problem in the first place.

What Causes Enlarged Pores on the Nose?

The truth of the matter is that nothing causes enlarged pores on the nose or anywhere else. Your pores are what they are and nothing can enlarge or shrink them. The pores on the nose are naturally larger, but that is not what most people are worried about.

Most of the magazine articles and website pages are dedicated not to fixing your naturally larger pores. They are instead providing you with strategies for making your pores appear smaller as a response to dirt, dust, and dead skin cells making your pores appear larger. Your pores only appear larger because they are clogged.

Thus, the real solution to “shrinking” your pores is to simply establish a solid skincare routine, keeping your face clean and moisturized at all times.

5 Ways to Shrink Enlarged Pores on the Nose

Exfoliate

To begin, if you already suffer from “enlarged” pores, get instant relief by exfoliating. Find an all-natural, plant-based exfoliant designed for your face and begin exfoliating a couple of times a week. This process will clear away dead skin cells and clear out your pores.

Face Mask

Invest in a high-quality face mask, preferably one made with clay. The clay will adhere to the dirt and grime in your pores and pull it out when you remove the mask. Face masks should be applied weekly.

Face Wash

Of course, you want to have a gentle face wash on hand. If you are concerned about getting clean, get a face wash that comes with a brush or invest in a separate face wash brush. It will level up your face wash to get any excess you might be otherwise missing.

Wash Twice Daily

Build washing your face twice a day into your routine and try hard not to waver from it. Wash in the morning before applying any makeup or product. Wash at night so you do not spend your sleeping hours creating and then rubbing your face into a dirty pillowcase.

Moisturize

Dry skin is a leading cause of pores appearing larger because it creates more dead skin cells, which then clog up your pores. Drink plenty of water and invest in a dry skin moisturizer if you suffer from this common skin issue. Keeping your skin hydrated will minimize pore problems.

Establishing a Solid Skincare Routine

Establishing a solid skincare routine takes dedication and commitment. It is so much easier to just fall into bed at night without washing your face or to jump out of bed and throw some makeup on before leaving the house.

When you establish a skincare routine that includes washing your face each morning and every night, you commit to making it happen no matter what. No exceptions. And if enlarged pores are a problem for you, it is a commitment you must make or give up entirely on getting your pores to look smaller.

Remember too that a large part of skincare includes confronting your environmental factors as well. Stress, lack of sleep, and lack of hydration are major players in dry and irritated skin. The term “beauty sleep” was created for a reason. You do an enormous service to your skin by getting at least 7 hours of sleep every night, managing your stress (hot yoga, anyone?), and drinking a ton of water.

While it may seem like a lot to think about now, and perhaps a lot of changes to make, they are all worth it in the long run, in more ways than one. When you manage your external factors, you will also find yourself more peaceful and even happier.

Do you know what makes for great skin? Happiness. A win/win for you.
