Hair loss is one of the most common hair concerns these days. Given our sedentary lifestyle and poor eating habits, our body does not get the proper nutrition it requires to maintain the natural health of our hair.

On top of that, external factors like pollution, chemical-based hair products and excessive heat from our hair styling tools cause more damage to the hair. Along with damaging the hair, these factors also affect the health of our scalp, leading to dandruff, inflammation, flakes and itchy scalp, among other problems.

If you’ve been dealing with hair damage and hair loss, hear me out here. I am a professional reviewer and aromatherapy aficionado and I have been researching essential oils and their impact on our hair and scalp for years.

I will be talking about what tea tree oil is, how it benefits the hair and scalp, and the best tea tree oil shampoo for hair loss. What is tea tree oil?

As the name suggests, pure tea tree oil is the essential oil extracted from the leaves of the Tea Tree shrub, scientifically known as Melaleuca alternifolia

The most common skin and scalp problems that have been treated with tea tree oil are fungal infections, acne, dandruff & flaky scalp.

Aside from these benefits, tea tree oil has also shown beneficial effects in dealing with hair loss. Let’s find out more!

How does tea tree oil benefit the hair?

The health of your hair is directly related to the health of your scalp. If your scalp is unhealthy or irritated/inflamed, it will impact the health and growth of your hair. Scalp problems often lead to clogged hair follicles, which is one of the most significant causes of hair problems, hair loss included.

In far too many cases people are unaware that, to treat hair damage and hair loss, they need to treat their (either oily or dry) scalp. And here is where tea tree comes in. If you think that your hair problems are caused by clogged follicles, dandruff or a scalp infection, pure tea tree essential oil might be of help.

Here are the benefits you can expect from using tea tree oil shampoo for your hair and scalp:

Regulates sebum production and prevents a flaky scalp

Tea tree oil helps regulate sebum production and various studies have shown that this oil effectively helps treat skin problems such as dermatitis and eczema. It has antifungal and antibacterial properties that help with other skin issues as well, such as irritation, dryness, itchiness, rashes, etc.

When tea tree oil is applied to the scalp, either mixed with a carrier oil or in a shampoo, it helps treat dandruff, dryness, and flakiness. It cleanses the scalp and hair deeply, helping eliminate the pollutants and other impurities clogging your follicles. By cleansing and treating your scalp, tea tree oil aids with hair health and hair growth

A study has revealed that 5% tea tree oil in shampoo is effective in the treatment of dandruff. So either dilute the oil properly and apply it on your scalp, or look for a tea tree oil shampoo. The simplest way to get the benefits of tea tree oil while shampooing is to add a couple of drops of the oil directly in your hand, on top of your regular shampoo. Just make sure you choose a 100% pure tea tree essential oil, as synthetic oils can cause chemical burns (besides the fact that they have zero benefits for your scalp’s health). Using the best tea tree oil for your homemade tea tree oil shampoo will ensure the most benefits.

Prevents hair damage and hair loss

What are the common causes of hair damage and hair loss? It all starts with your scalp.

With the usage of hair products like hair serums, hairsprays, and other harsh styling products, chances of buildup on the scalp are high. This toxic buildup leads to many scalp problems, including irritation and inflammation. To cleanse and soothe your scalp, apply tea tree oil to it, after properly diluting it in a carrier oil. Leave it on for a couple of hours, then wash it off with a gentle shampoo.

You might notice results after just one wash, but you should continue with this treatment for at least a couple of weeks. Tea tree essential oil will help eliminate scalp buildup, reduce inflammation and irritation and help you maintain a cleaner and healthier scalp. Once your scalp gets healthy and your hair follicles are unclogged, normal hair growth should resume.
