Uses and benefits of castor oil for hair

So, is castor oil good for your hair? Castor oil's cleansing and hydrating properties make the perfect choice for natural beauty remedies. The reason behind this are many valuable ingredients and properties for hair health and healthy hair growth:

  • Vitamin E (tocopheryl acetate) helps with increasing blood flow in the scalp. Healthy blood flow means healthy scalp, and healthy scalp means healthy hair growth.

  • Antioxidant with anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. We all know that antioxidants prevent free radicals from damaging healthy cells — a process known as oxidative stress that sometimes causes hair loss.

  • Omega-6 fatty acids. Those fatty acids promote hair growth and reduce inflammation in the hair follicle.

  • Castor oil will strengthen the hair follicles, boost healthy hair growth, help treat conditions like alopecia, dandruff, and other frequent scalp problems.

  • For long and healthy hair, mix castor oil and tea tree oil. This mix will boost hair growth while balancing the Ph level of the scalp.

  • Castor oil is one of the most efficient products against lice and other hair parasites because it penetrates hair follicles and prevents lice from depositing eggs.

Now we know why the best results have been noticed with applying castor oil to hair.

So to put it shortly: is castor oil good for your hair? - Yes!

But, make sure to be careful if you're interested in using castor oil for hair growth

You will notice that castor oil is thick and sticky, making it difficult to rub in into the scalp if you have long hair.

In this case, you can dilute castor oil with other natural oils like coconut oil or jojoba oil. Dilution of the castor oil is often done to tone down the scent of castor, which you might find unpleasant.

To dilute it properly, mix one part castor oil with two parts of coconut oil or any other carrier oil.

Start with rubbing just a few drops of the castor oil into your scalp, hair's midsection, along with the hair strands, and down to dry, split ends. This way, you will take care of your scalp health and create protection against the breakage of your hair strands.

Another idea for a more pleasant scent of the castor oil-based mixture is adding a few drops of (essential) oils that smell nice.

There are no precise guidelines for how long you should leave castor oil or any other mix with castor oil on your hair. But be careful - leaving it for too long can actually dry out your hair and scalp. To be on the safe side, monitor your scalp and always rinse it thoroughly after a couple of hours.

Uses and benefits of tea tree oil for hair and skincare

Like castor oil, tea tree oil has many benefits for hair but, much more benefits for skincare. The difference comes from the fact that this essential oil is a powerful cleanser, and it has multiple uses as such.

When it comes to using tea tree oil for hair, it is a great addition to castor oil when it comes to scalp care because it can help prevent greasiness, parasites, and dead skin buildup on the scalp's surface.

This means that, in the long run, using tea tree oil for hair and in scalp care can help reduce hair loss and stimulate hair growth by keeping the hair roots clean and the scalp healthy.

As for the skincare part, it is no longer a secret that you can use tea tree oil as an efficient natural remedy for acne. By removing the layers of dead skin from the surface of the epidermis, tea tree oil prevents the pores from clogging and forming pimples. Acne scars have also been successfully treated due to the healing properties of tea tree oil.

How do they actually work?

Both castor oil and tea tree oil are essential for hair growth because they keep the hair and scalp clean, healthy and they prevent dead skin buildup.

Also, tea tree oil affects blood circulation, and healthy circulation means a release of toxins, hair roots remain free of excessive sebum or dead skin.

Those oils, as a mix, have antiseptic, antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.

Even using them as prevention or for skincare can be a great way to boost your regular beauty routine and keep your skin and scalp healthy.

Castor and tea tree oil mix - DIY

Creating a perfect, healthy mix of castor oil and tea tree oil for hair growth is fairly simple, but it has to include a carrier oil.

First, mix two tablespoons of castor oil with a few drops of tea tree oil. Then, add four tablespoons of preferred carrier oil. Mix it well and evenly apply the mixture to the hair.

It is preferable to rub the mix mostly on the scalp and the roots because they will benefit the most from these natural oils.

Depending on your beauty routine, you may shampoo, condition, and rinse the hair after a couple of hours.

If you're not so sure about the do-it-yourself remedy, there is WOW Castor oil. The best effects are shown with massaging the lukewarm oil into scalp and hair roots with a stimulating scalp massage brush!

Extra tips:

  • For additional hair glow, you may rub in several drops of castor oil on the length of the hair.
  • If you are looking for an easier method to achieve a healthy hair glow, you can simply add several drops of castor oil and tea tree oil to your leave-in conditioner.
  • Unlike castor oil, tea tree oil can be combined with vinegar and water to create an eco-friendly house cleaning mixture.
  • If you run out of hand sanitizer or the alcohol-based gel is too rough for your skin, you can replace it with tea tree oil (properly diluted in a carrier oil and then incorporated into some aloe vera gel), which is very effective against all sorts of bacteria.

Using castor oil and tea tree oil for hair growth can have incredible results. However, for best results, castor oil and the tea tree oil that you use for your beauty mixtures have to be pure and unadulterated. So check our WOW range of essential oils for the best DIY mixtures.
