Boost Your Hair Growth with Aloe Vera: Tips on How to Apply It to Your Hair

For centuries, several cultures, like the Greeks, Egyptians, Indians, Japanese, Mexican, and Chinese, have used aloe vera for medical purposes – to treat burns, reduce fevers, and even treat wounds. Queens like Cleopatra and Nefertiti made this plant a part of their regular beauty routines. Here’s a look at how various compounds of the aloe vera plant can have a tremendous effect on natural hair growth:

Unclogs pores

Dead skin cells on the scalp can clog hair follicles, cause hair fall, and even retard hair growth. The aloe vera plant contains special proteolytic enzymes that break down proteins on the skin – including the dead skin cells on the scalp.

Hair follicles clogged because of grease, dirt, and grime cannot grow well. Aloe can be used to cleanse the scalp thoroughly so hair follicles can grow thicker and faster.

Promotes the growth of shiny hair

Aloe vera has a dense nutrient profile and is a rich source of vitamins A, C, and E. These vitamins together encourage cell turnover required for shiny hair and hair cell growth.

Scientists believe aloenin, a chemical compound in the aloe vera plant, promotes hair growth and even reduces hair breakage.

Stops hair from falling out

Aloe vera is a rich source of plant compounds like vitamin B12 and folic acid (vitamin B9). Vitamin B12 works with Vitamin B9 to help produce oxygen-rich RBCs that feed hair follicles, promote healthy hair growth, and prevent hair loss.

Onion Juice Benefits for Hair Growth: How to Use It to Promote Hair Growth

Onion is an indispensable staple in the kitchen, but like aloe vera, it is loaded with plant compounds, vitamins, and minerals that all contribute to healthy hair growth. Here’s a look at what they can do for your hair:

Prevents hair fall

Hair fall can prevent your hair from growing thick and long. Onion juice contains copious amounts of sulfur, making hair stronger and less susceptible to breakage. Stronger hair leads to less hair fall due to breakage.

Promotes collagen production

Hair is made up of a protein called keratin with high sulfur content. The higher the sulfur content, the stronger and more elastic hair is. Hair with very little or no sulfur is brittle and can be easily broken. Onion juice is a rich source of sulfur that encourages natural collagen and keratin production for stronger hair.

Makes hair thicker

A good scalp massage does wonders for hair growth. It increases blood circulation in the scalp and makes the scalp ready to absorb nutrients better. Regular scalp massages with onion juice do not only improve blood circulation but also provide the scalp with a boost of micronutrients that strengthen fragile hair. Anti-inflammatories and antioxidants in onion juice help increase blood flow to the roots and encourage hair growth.

How to Make Aloe Vera and Onion Juice for Hair Growth: Step-by-Step Guide

This aloe vera + onion juice hair mask with honey is ideal for hair growth. It’s safe enough to be used three or even four times a week before you wash your hair.

Ingredients

  •       One small or half a medium-sized onion
  •       One aloe vera leaf
  •       One tablespoon of honey

Method

  1.     Grate the onion. Or chop it into small cubes, put it in a blender, and blend it into a pulp.
  2.     Collect the onion pulp in your hand and squeeze it to extract the juice. You can also use a muslin cloth to drain the liquid from the onion pulp.
  3.     With a knife, cut off the base of the aloe vera leaf. Next, cut down the two thorny edges of the leaf.
  4.     Gently remove the top skin of the leaf with a knife. Try not to scrape off the gel within the leaf – you will need this gel.
  5.     Scoop the gel out with a spoon.
  6.     Add the onion juice and aloe vera gel to the blender.
  7.     Blend until well combined.
  8.     Transfer to a container and add honey. Mix well.

How to apply

  •       Massage the onion juice + aloe vera gel mixture into the scalp. Massage any remaining mixture into the hair.
  •       Leave it on your hair for half an hour and then rinse it with warm water.
  •       Use mild shampoo to eliminate the pungent smell of the onion juice.

How often to use aloe vera and onion juice for hair growth

Concentrated, sulfur-rich onion juice can irritate the scalp and must not be used daily. On the other hand, Aloe vera has soothing and calming properties that balance out the acidic nature of onion juice. When used together, aloe vera + onion juice can be safely used twice or three times a week.
