How to Make Long Hair Look Short Without Cutting It

Here's a list of the nine easiest ways to make your hair appear shorter without putting scissors on it.

    • Curl It Up

Curls have a reputation for making long hair appear shorter. The easiest way to shorten your hair without cutting it would be to curl it up all the way.

Start by washing your hair with a hydrating shampoo and conditioner. Then use regular rollers (not curling irons or heated rollers that can damage your hair) and set them up. Remember to align them properly to avoid your curls standing up in every direction.

If possible, try to sleep with the rollers on, although it will be very uncomfortable. When you wake up (or take the rollers off), do not brush or comb your hair. Just use a hairspray to set the curls in place, and you're all set!

    • The Faux Bob

Consider using an optical illusion rather than going to the hairdresser to have your stylist trim those inches. Celebrities and models love the look of twisting their length into a faux bob by using pins.

Start with a shine-enhancing shampoo and conditioner to give the faux bob a more authentic look. After getting out of the shower, blow-dry your mane sleek using a heat-protecting blowout formula. It won't take long for that reflective finish to pay off.

Pull the ends of your hair into a loose bun at the bottom of your neck. Pull it down toward your neck's base. Pin it in place and touch up the rest of your folded hair until you have a fairly decent bob shape.

Finish the do with a hair spray to lock in the shine and texture.

    • Use Bobby Pins

The first step is to part your hair in the shape of a headband from ear to ear. Section off the remaining four to five inches of your hair.

The first section should now be raised so that it covers your face. Turn it away over towards the back and secure it once more using bobby pins. Follow the same procedure for the remaining sections.

Roll back the headband-shaped hair so that it is covering the rest of your hair and the bobby pins. You can secure it with a few more bobby pins.

    • Tuck It In

This approach is so simple that it's almost hard to believe it actually works. All you need to do to create the appearance of a short, shoulder-length lob is fold your hair into a turtleneck sweater or a fairly large scarf.

Then, to make it appear natural, gently pull out the mid-lengths using the end of a tooth comb. And voila! Say hello to your new wintertime go-to look!

    • The Faux Pixie

If you want more volume on top, try this one. Curl your hair tightly to add texture to the style. Then, pull it back on your head and secure it in a ponytail. The ponytail should now be twisted to the front, and Kirby grips should be used to secure it.

It's a fairly tight hairstyle, though, so remember to treat your scalp to a massage once you take it down. You can use deep-conditioning hair oil for this so your tresses can benefit, too.

    • Braid It

When you braid your hair, it makes them appear shorter right away. This is particularly true for cornrows. Regular French braids, however, work just as well. Beginning at the top of your head, braid your hair downward. Create a minimum of two braids.

Your hair will appear shorter the tighter you braid it. You can braid three strands together into one. While drastically cutting your hair short, you'll achieve an impressive hairstyle. Another option is to use your own hair to create box braids. Alternately, try milkmaid braids with two plaits wrapped around your head.

    • Use a Hair Wrap

If you don't mind wearing hair accessories, a silk scarf or bandana will work. All you have to do is braid or bun your hair, then pin it to the hair on top of your head.

Next, use the bandana to cover your head as women did in the 1960s. You do not only get a chic short hairstyle, but you also shield your locks from harmful elements like the sun.
