How to Make Your Hair Look Wet

3 mins

Rahul Bhatia

Wet hair looks are an age-old classic redefined by modern hairstyling trends. Want to know how to make your hair look wet? Read on to find out!

For quite some time, wet look as a hair style has been spotted on celebs and fashion runways. No, you don't have to go outside with your hair dripping wet to participate in this beauty trend. Even if you don't have a glam squad at your disposal to give you a wet look hairstyle, you can achieve a wet and shiny look on your own.

While it may appear overwhelming at first, replicating this runway-ready look is actually quite simple. It's a hairstyle that may be worn at any time of year, although summer is definitely its season. Aside from its incredible versatility, the nicest thing about the wet hair look is that it doesn't require the services of a professional hairstylist.

Follow these simple steps to help achieve the desired look:

Step 1: Wash and Dry

Don’t dry your hair completely! This is a very important step in obtaining the wet hair look. Instead, towel dry your hair or use a T-shirt to absorb excess moisture. This will also help prevent frizz, particularly if you have wavy, curly or coily hair.

Step 2: Apply the Hair Gel

Don't be stingy with the product when it comes to the damp hair look. Yes, for once you can go crazy with your hair gel! Work a substantial amount of hair gel through your tresses, starting at the roots. Start with a dollop of hair gel, and add more as needed to achieve a truly "wet hair" effect. With practice, you’ll discover what works best for you, but bear in mind that the more gel you use, the wetter your hair will appear.

Step 3: Style Your Hair

You can now style your strands using different types of combs and hair brushes, depending on the look you want to achieve. For instance, use a fine-tooth comb to smooth down your baby hairs and roots for an extra silky slicked-back look. Use a wide tooth comb to sweep your hair away from your face and define your waves for a more natural and beachy look or use a detangling brush for wet hair, if needed. Just be gentle, as wet hair, and particularly wet hair that is packed with products, is very fragile.

Step 4: Add Shine

Spray a glossing spray evenly throughout your lengths, avoiding the roots, while holding the bottle 6-8 inches away from your hair. Glossing spray will add the perfect finishing touch to your wet look hairstyle.

Step 5: The Final Touch

You can lightly blow dry your hair to set the style even more or leave it as it is for a more casual, undone vibe, depending on where and when you're wearing it. Just make sure to put the blow dryer on the lowest setting, if you decide on using it.

Styles that you can do with wet hair

Brush it back

The slick back is a classic, it is simple to manage and can instantly elevate anyone's appearance. Brush the hair back with a comb and finish with a shine hairspray to achieve a neat wet look. The slick back is a versatile straight hair hairstyle that works well with a variety of hair textures and lengths, including for short hair.

Side part

Side part hairstyles are the epitome of elegance and sophistication. You can even make your hair appear thicker, fuller, and healthier by simply changing your part to the side. To achieve this look, start by blow-drying your damp hair to the desired side. Once your hair is almost dry, use a generous amount of gel to get the effect of the wet look and finish with a wide tooth comb and a hairspray for maximum hold and shine.

Naturally curly hair

For folks with natural curls, wet hair is a great alternative. Apply some sea salt spray to your locks and let them dry naturally to get that sultry beach appearance. You'll also need to use hair gel and a shine-enhancing hairspray.

Keeping your hair healthy for the best wet hair look

The wet hair look may be appropriate for informal and social occasions, but it may not be ideal for business settings. Also, although wet look is a great hairstyle, it only looks good if your hair is healthy and hydrated.
