It can be frustrating to try almost every step in the book but have none of it work. You may be surprised at how many other people face the same problem.
There are really simple ways you can do at home right now to help you stop breaking out. Find relief and protect your skin naturally with these steps!
1. Wash Your Face The Right Way
It all starts with the basics. You can have all the right products but still have acne that persists because you’re not doing it right.
Firstly, you should already be cleansing your face twice a day as your skin is exposed to various aggressors throughout the day. There is also an accumulation of dirt, grime, and bacteria on your skin as you go about your day.
A common mistake is to wash your face only at night and not in the morning. This is a mistake as your face is exposed to the oils from your hair and dirt & dead skin cells from your pillowcase. If you apply any products to your skin like serums before sleeping, you want to wash that from your face before starting your day as well.
You also want to be using the right temperature of water for washing your face. Stay away from steaming hot water as heat dilates your pores and can cause breakage on your delicate skin barrier. This can cause your skin to dry out and aggravate your acne.
2. Watch Out For Harsh Ingredients
It can be easy to get lost in all the pretty packaging and excitement with skincare products. But the chemicals in your products may play a bigger role than you think. It’s surprisingly common for skincare products to contain potentially harmful or even toxic ingredients.
These are ingredients like :
- Parabens
- Silicones
- Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
- Formaldehyde
- Lead
- Phthalates
Instead, you want to go for natural products that are safe and non-reactive for your skin. If you have oily, dry, or sensitive skin, then these ingredients could be responsible for your acne. This is especially true if your acne is red and inflamed.
3. Exfoliate Regularly
Your skin goes through a cycle of shedding every 30 days or so. This is where your older skin cells are replaced by newer skin cells.
But it's common for these skin cells to not shed properly because of dryness or excess oiliness. This causes the skin cells to clog up and cause issues like redness, swelling, and blackheads.
Now you want to be careful that you’re not exfoliating your skin too harshly as that can easily contribute to making the problem worse.
