Products For Split Ends You Can't Go Without

7 mins

Andela Patrnogic

Split ends are awfully common. Especially if you don’t have the right hair care. Here’s a few products you can’t go without if you have split ends.

Split ends are the frayed or split strands of hair. Usually, they are towards the end of the strands, and they are pretty visible. But a strand can split upward as well.

Different factors, including genetics, the extent of environmental exposure, and hair care habits, are determinant factors.

Hair that has split ends looks dull, unkempt, and unhealthy. When there are split ends, hair cuticles – the outermost layers of hair – are damaged.

As a result, the cuticles lose their suppleness. This prevents cuticles, and thereby strands, from falling smoothly against each other. The result is a straggly mass of hair without any natural shine to it. The straggly mass tends to be more tangle- and knot-prone, which further damages the hair.

Lack of moisture and inadequate nourishment are the two most prominent reasons for split ends. But, don’t worry - a healthy hair routine and the right hair care products can make your hair radiant once again.

    Causes of Split Hair

    • Exposure to the harsh sun or heavy winds can damage hair and cause split ends
    • Excessive use of hot styling tools such as blow dryers, hair straighteners, and curlers
    • Frequent coloring or bleaching
    • Use of hair products with damaging chemicals
    • Unhealthy diet
    • Improper hair habits such as excessive hair washing and rubbing with a towel. Even styling your hair in a tight ponytail can result in split ends
    • Handling the hair roughly. Vigorous hair brushing or harsh rubbing of hair are some examples. This can damage cuticles and weaken hair structure

When you are exposed to any of the above causes, your hair becomes dry and brittle, which makes strands vulnerable to damage and splitting.

    Symptoms

Split ends have different shapes. Often, they resemble a fork at the end of a strand. A hair strand may be split into 2 or 3 sub-strands at the end of the strand. These sub-strands may split further, which gives a branch-like appearance to the strand.

Split ends can also occur in the middle of a hair strand, indicating that hair is weaker at this location.

Best Products to Use for Split Hair

Even though split ends are very common, this does not mean that they cannot be dealt with. Here are our product recommendations:

    Ingredients include:

  • Bhringraj. The Bhringraj extract is a super oil for hair. It is derived from Bhringraj herb. The herb has potent properties that promote hair growth and prevent premature aging. It is also used in treating skin diseases, liver disorders and asthma.
  • This extract helps repair broken hair or weak hair. By doing so, it prevents further hair damage due to split ends and promotes hair growth. Regular massage with this oil soothes the scalp.

  • Tea Trees Oil. Tea Tree oil has multiple benefits to hair. This essential oil, derived from the leaves of the plant Melaleuca Alternifolia, treats dandruff, strengthens hair and keeps it clean.
  • Since split ends are often a result of lack of nutrition and moisture, use of tea tree oil can help address this issue. Tea tree oil prevents clogging of hair follicles by dead skin cells and unwanted buildup. When follicles are free, moisture retention is healthy, which keeps your hair healthy and nourished.

  • Rosemary. Next in the list of super oils used in this formulation is Rosemary essential oil. A herb by origin, rosemary has been a significant part of Mediterranean culture. The oil has been in use in the culture for several hundreds of years as a hair rinsing product.
  • Rosemary oil addresses the issue of split ends by keeping hair strong. Improved blood circulation is a key benefit of rosemary oil. With improved blood flow, hair follicles receive all the nourishment they need. Your hair grows strong and can resist split ends more effectively.

  • Argan Oil. Moroccan Argan oil, used in this formulation, is specifically useful to tame straggly strands caused by split ends. Also referred to as argan oil or Moroccan oil, this essential oil is an excellent moisturizer. It helps control and prevent split ends by improving the moisture quotient of strands.
  • This oil contains plenty of hair-enriching compounds, including Vitamin E, fatty acids and antioxidants. Together, these compounds add a natural shine to your hair, repair damaged strands, and control dandruff. They also help hair to keep any style in shape.

  • Jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is usually extracted using the cold-pressing method. This oil has a number of benefits for your hair, the key being its ability to replicate the benefits of skin’s natural oil sebum. As a result, your hair stays hydrated, shiny and soft.
  • Jojoba oil has fatty acids, which protect the hair from damage. Jojoba oil can also prevent hair damage due to environmental factors (a significant cause of split ends). This is a result of the oil’s rich antioxidant properties.

There are also a range of minerals in jojoba oil, Vitamin C, copper, Vitamin B Complex and zinc. They are key to hair health and growth. Jojoba oil offers deep hair conditioning, which is the best nourishment for dry hair.

  • Safflower Oil.  Safflower oil comes with excellent benefits for the hair. The plant was used during the times of Egyptian civilization for preparing dyes. This plant was prevalent across countries, including Persia and India, in the ancient times.
  • Safflower has been a part of haircare products across cultures and healing sciences, including Ayurveda and Chinese.

Safflower oil is rich in linoleic acid, which strengthens the skin’s barrier, resulting in increased moisture retention and protection from irritants. With a strong scalp, you can expect your hair to be healthy.

Presence of Vitamin E and anti-inflammatory properties makes safflower oil the best for soothing the scalp.

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Olive oil is another ingredient in this formulation. Olive oil is a known haircare product that has been in use for over thousands of years.
  • Olive oil has palmitic acid, oleic acid and squalene. These nutrients soften the hair and keep it moisturized. The ability of olive oil to strengthen and smoothen hair strands comes from its property to keep the outer cuticle of strands smooth.

Olive oil is particularly useful for split ends. The oil can smooth the damaged ends of strands and restore its natural smoothness. A gentle massage with this 10- in-1 oil, starting from the scalp through the ends, helps extract the benefits of olive oil.

  • Sweet Almond Oil. Sweet almond oil is another ingredient that boosts hair growth and strength by providing vitamin E, omega-9 fatty acids and protein.
  • Sweet almond oil also comes with lubricating properties, which help reduce hair damage while using styling devices.

This oil keeps hair smooth by closing gaps in between cells of strands. Over time, hair becomes softer. Regular application removes tangling and knots, which reduces harsh brushing, preventing the chances of split ends.

A ton of goodness is awaiting you!

    Coconut Milk Shampoo

This combination of select plant products nourishes your splint ends and seals them. Use our coconut milk shampoo to make split ends a thing of the past.

Products with harsh chemicals can cause their build-up and accumulation on the scalp. This build-up can clog your hair follicles, preventing natural moisture and nourishment from reaching your strands. Hair fries and becomes dull as a result, raising the risk of split ends.

Coconut milk gives the perfect nourishment without clogging follicles. It is gentle on the scalp and is a perfect oil if you have a sensitive scalp.

Coconut milk is rich in lauric acid. This fatty acid can penetrate deep into your hair to nourish and hydrate strands. This deep penetration helps strengthen cuticles. As we mentioned cuticles are damaged in split ends, so that’s why coconut milk shampoo is a perfect option

Coconut milk is also high in keratin - a protein essential to keep your hair strong. Topical application on the hair can give your strands essential nourishment.

This formulation is also high in vitamins E, C, B6, B5, B1, and B3. This is a comprehensive vitamin profile essential to keep your hair strong and hydrated. You can also apply this formulation as a scalp treatment.

This product packs the punch with the goodness of argan oil and aloe vera extract!

Argan oil has been part of many cultures as a hair and beauty ingredient for centuries. This oil has fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamin E. These nutrients moisturize strands and improve scalp health.

Fatty acids, in particular linoleic and oleic acid, in argan oil, moisturize hair shaft and keep it hydrated. Vitamin E helps develop a fatty layer, which packs in moisture, preventing dryness and fizziness. This vitamin helps restore the natural shine of your strands.

The antioxidants in argan oil in our shampoo protects you from the damaging effects of sunrays. This is pretty beneficial as extreme sun exposure can cause split ends.

Aloe vera extract is a well-known healer. Its healing properties soothe the scalp and reduce the impact of irritants on the hair. It deep-cleans hair strands without clogging them. The extract removes any product left in pores and extra sebum - unclogging follicles.

Vitamins C, E, and A in aloe vera, repair hair damage such as split ends, by promoting healthy cell growth. Folic acid and Vitamin B12 in the extract prevent hair loss.

This coconut milk shampoo is full of natural goodness and the perfect recipe for strong, shiny and smooth hair.

    Coconut Milk Conditioner

Coconut Milk Conditioner comes with hydrolyzed keratin, the protein key to maintaining strand health and hydration. With regular application of this conditioner, strands regain their strength and shine.

Curly strands often have a hard time retaining moisture. As a result, they can become frizzy, dry, and more vulnerable to split ends. With this coconut milk conditioner, you can provide your curly hair with all the nourishment it needs and reduce the risk of split ends.

This conditioner is prepared with coconut milk extract, hydrolyzed vegetable protein and castor oil.

Coconut milk extract protects the skin from dryness, irritation and nourishes strands with essential nutrients. It keeps the strands moisturized.

    coconut hair oil

Hydrolyzed vegetable protein enters deep into hair shafts and restores keratin protein. This replenishment helps build the natural protective layer of hair.

Castor oil is derived from the seeds of the plant. This oil is rich in antioxidants, which carry a load of benefits for hair.

Castor oil has omega-6 fatty acids and ricinoleic acid, which improve blood circulation. Strands grow healthy and strong as they receive the nutrients they need.

A key benefit is the ability of the oil to stimulate dormant hair follicles and promote hair growth.

This conditioner also provides the benefits of an array of other natural ingredients, including extra virgin olive oil, sweet almond oil, argan oil and jojoba oil.

This conditioner scores high not only for its handpicked natural products, but also for the absence of harmful chemicals. Many hair conditioners contain chemicals such as parabens, sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate and formaldehyde. Some of these chemicals are used in car wash soaps and engine degreasers.

The coconut milk conditioner is completely free of these ingredients.

The Amber packaging of the product protects the purity and strength of the natural ingredients contained within.

Good products can help you prevent split ends. If you already have split ends, then visit your stylist for a trimming. Once split ends are professionally removed, you can develop a prevention routine with hair products mentioned above to prevent or reduce split ends. Rely on hair-enriching nutrient-rich foods along with a healthy haircare routine with the right products to prevent split ends.
