What Are the Best Ways to Protect Hair While Going to Bed?
Read below for the best tips on how to protect your hair when going to bed.
Don't Go to Bed With Wet Hair
You should avoid going to bed with wet hair as much as you can. You know that wet hair is fragile and more prone to breakage.
Add to that a possible risk of developing a fungal infection due to the hyperactivity of fungal species present on your bedding, and you are likely to avoid going to bed with wet hair again.
However, sometimes you cannot help it and need to wash your hair before bed. In that case, make sure that your hair is not dripping wet hair, ensure that it is damp. Meaning, you have already dried your hair preferably, using a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt.
Invest in a Satin Pillowcase
Twisting and turning in bed makes your hair prone to breakage. And when your hair is in a fragile state, it makes sense to do everything you can to protect it.
Investing in a silk or satin pillowcase is a good choice as it is gentle on your hair. It avoids friction and prevents breakage.
Wrap Your Hair
If you own a satin or silk scarf, use it to wrap your hair. It will protect your hair and prevent breakage, similar to a silk pillowcase.
Ensure that you do not wrap it loosely, or it will come off when you toss and turn in bed. However, you don't want to wrap it too tight either, as your hair wouldn't have any space to breathe.
It also solves the problem of your hair being on your face all night.
Brush Your Hair
Instead of going to bed with tangled hair and waking up with breakage, you should gently brush your hair before going to bed.
Find a hairbrush that is gentle on your scalp and does not cause any damage.
Oil Your Hair
Oiling your hair protects your hair against frizz. You can even apply oil while it is damp for moisturization.
Oils like coconut oil have shown protective effects against damage, according to a study.
You only need a few drops of hair oil, rub it between your palms, and apply it gently over your lengths and ends. Massage it on the scalp for 5 minutes and let it sit overnight.

What Is the Best Way to Wear Hair to Bed to Prevent Breakage?
Instead of letting your hair open, you can do simple hairstyles and wake up with even more beautiful hair in the morning.
I've mentioned some of my favorite hairstyles below.
Loose Braids
If you want to wake up with wavy hair in the morning, go for loose braids. There are many types of braids you can do; however, always ensure that you make them loose.
A simple low braid or French braid gives you a good texture the next day.
Make a Top Bun
A simple top bun will make your hair a little more voluminous in the morning.
Take all your hair in one hand and gently twist it into a bun on top of your head. Use 2-3 bobby pins to secure it in place, so your hair doesn't come loose while you sleep.
Space Buns
Channel your inner Princess Leia and go for her iconic space buns.
Divide your hair into two sections, twist each section, and fold it into a bun. Secure it with a couple of bobby pins, and it should give your hair a bouncy look in the morning.
Use Velcro Rollers for Curls
If you are going to bed with damp hair and want to wake up with curls in the morning, go for this hairstyle.
The old-fashioned way of using velcro rollers to get curly hair. Although, your hair should be 80-90% dry for this hairstyle.
Start with the hair near the forehead and secure it in the rollers properly with pins. Then move backward till your entire hair is in rollers.
Leaving your hair open while going to bed is a recipe for disaster. Avoid doing that.
Massage your hair, change your pillowcase and do a simple hairstyle that will not only protect your hair but also make it look more voluminous in the morning.
