Geetika Kapoor

So you ended up with acne scars. It’s not the end of the world! However, keep reading to know all about how to get rid of the skin craters naturally.

Dealing with acne is bothersome, to say the least, but having to deal with the marks and craters that acne can leave behind as a constant reminder that it’s been there is even worse. As with many other skincare issues, these marks do not disappear overnight and might take weeks, months, or even years to fade. If they fade at all. Covering your skin with excess make-up can’t help you in the long run; rather it might aggravate the situation. If you’re sailing in the same boat of sorrow filled with this skin woe, then jump into this article for valuable insight on how to get rid of acne craters naturally.

And, remember, having acne scars (aka “craters”, which, if you ask me, is a terrible term) is not the end of the world. Remember that your skin is beautiful, you’re beautiful, and that most of the times we’re just obsessing over “flaws” that only we can notice.

What Are Acne Craters?

Loss of collagen in your skin (from various causes) often leads to the development of pitted marks that look like hollow craters. Acne and breakouts that go way deep within your skin and result in inflammation often lead to the formation of these craters.

Studies and research support that the loss of collagen often slows down the healing process of your skin and leads to scarring. According to Dr. Kara Shah, MD, a board-certified general and pediatric dermatologist with Kenwood Dermatology in Cincinnati, scarring from acne is a condition that can happen to anybody, but is most common with people who suffer from inflammatory and cystic acne

How to Get Rid of Craters in Skin Naturally

Though we are the ones who’ve always had easy access to a wide range of makeup products and a vanity completely filled with branded cosmetics, yet our moms and grandmothers are the ones with ultra glowing and blemish-free skin. Ever wonder why?

The older ladies present in our homes can often prove to be the bearer of the most amazing beauty secrets that can help us have clear and spotless skin. Yet we often fail to tap onto this source and consider it far less knowledgeable than our google searches. For a change, give these natural home remedies a try and let them spark your skin with their magic. Here are a few of my personal favorite natural remedies that have done the trick for me and helped in reducing those pesky scars:

  • Potato: Known for its healing and astringent properties, potato works wonderfully well to eliminate excess oil from your skin, reduce blackheads and help heal stubborn scars. You can easily apply potato juice on all the affected areas of your skin and see effective results within few applications.

  • Orange peels: The peels of this citrusy fruit enriched with the goodness of Vitamin C work as a boon to get rid of stubborn marks and blemishes. For even better and quicker results, the peels of the fruit can be powdered and mixed with honey.
  • Turmeric and jojoba oil: Turmeric is a well-known healing agent that works on almost every skincare concern. Combining it with skin repairing and rejuvenating jojoba oil can prove to be exactly what your skin needs. A smooth paste of these two ingredients can be applied twice or thrice a week for effective results.
  • Aloe Vera: This is one powerful remedy that has done the trick for me. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of Aloe Vera aid in healing the skin affected by infections, skin allergies, blemishes, acne, and hard to get rid of marks. Apply a thick layer of this natural product on your skin and leave it for a few minutes or even overnight.

Effective Products to Improve the Appearance of Acne Craters

Skimming through a variety of skincare products and deciding on the ones that are helpful with your concerns can be quite an intimidating task, and ending up with the wrong product can worsen the condition of your skin. To ease this search for you, here are a few effective and safe products you can use to nourish and protect your skin, while also improving the appearance of those acne scars:

Essential Oils

Essential oils can be used to heal acne scars and improve the appearance of your skin. Here are a few great options:

Lavender essential oil

Tea tree oil

The oil is well known for treating acne and blemishes, due to its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, but it also works well against acne craters and deep wounds.
Research conducted in 2015 supports the fact that this oil, when applied topically, can treat inflammatory disorders and heal scars and wounds.

Geranium essential oil

The anti-inflammatory properties of this oil are quite helpful with the healing process of your skin. It is known to treat several skin conditions such as dermatitis, eczema, and premature aging.

A word of caution: you should always dilute essential oils (no matter which ones you’re using) in a carrier oil for topical applications to avoid burns and sensitization. Also, make sure you only use 100% pure essential oils.

Face Wash

That’s why it’s really important to get your hands on a premium face wash that can gently exfoliate your skin, helping you getting rid of dead skin cells, dirt, grime, and excess oil.

WOW Skin Science has quite a few face washes packed with natural ingredients that gently cleanse and nourish your skin, without stressing the sebaceous glands. So you can browse through their collection and make your pick.

Face Mask
